Welcome to another episode of JMJ Is passionate about…
Today were passionate about fashion and were with brothers Pete and Dan, the founders of Brixton Street Wear, a progessive clothing brand that at its heart represents family and community support.

It all started when Pete thought it would be a nice idea to do something personal for his brother Dan’s upcoming birthday, so he designed a logo that represents family, music, culture and community. Areas they are both passionate about, it turned out to be the perfect fit. They trademarked the logo and got some t-shirts and hats made up for themselves and then they started receiving requests, so they would just charge people what it cost for them to get items made up. Creating an Instagram account seemed like the right thing to do and off the back of this the brand blew up.

“Wasn’t expecting any of this, so we used the success as a catalyst to help the community while growing the brand” Dan
So with a strong sense of identity and community Brixton Street Wear was born, community is at the heart of everything they do and just being around these guys you get a sense of family, a sense of togetherness that I have to say is refreshing, and believe it or not isn’t always the case when you delve into what these brands are all about.
“We had and idea to help local establishment like Brixton Soup Kitchen during lockdown, we noticed that none of these local businesses were getting any coverage from the government so we thought let’s bring out some collections to raise money and awareness for these organisations” Pete
Can’t remember exactly how I heard about Brixton Street Wear, I think it could be through Instagram, both showing support for one another’s photo feeds, but Brixton Is my town so our connection was inevitable, quality always rises to the top.

Also the streets were talking so it would of been hard to be part the sneaker/street culture in London and not notice Brixton Street Wear, the brand feels current and vibrant, the quality of the materials used are top draw, I have a few items myself and you can feel that quality as soon as you put on one their garments, it just adds to your outfit. With many styles, colourways and combinations, all at very reasonable prices, they have something for everyone’s taste.
The original logo was based on a white label record In homage to Dan’s love of music, DJ-ing, the 90s music scene, NWA, Jumping Jack Frost, Jungle and HipHop. There Is a story behind every BSW logo, an example of this Is one of their t-shirts that incorporates a basketball into the logo, which was in collaboration with Footlocker to support Brixton Topcats basketball club.
“We want to spread the brand across other communities, although we’re Brixton Street Wear we don’t just want to help Brixton, we want to help everybody, we want to get young kids involved In our mentoring projects. It’s not just about hats and t-shirts, we’re always talking about what we’re going to do next, who we’re going to work with, who we’ve inspired, who we can inspire”. Dan

Passion Is a big part of what we do here at the JMJ and we are drawn to brands/people/platforms that have that same togetherness and passion for what they do.
“I grew up here, I know the community, I know the culture, I know the vibe of Brixton, for me passion means family, community and love, we don’t promote any negative vibes, we want to be an inclusive brand where everyone Is welcome”. Dan

The word family Is used a lot within the sneaker and apparel community but you don’t always get that feeling of family when reaching out to brands. From our very first conversation with Brixton Street Wear it has always been an inspiration, their approachable attitude makes working with them a pleasurable experience and you always look forward to the next time you get to link up.

“We are what we are, we’re from the heart, we’re not here to make millions at any cost, we’re not that, we’ve always done what we think Is right and will continue to do so, it has to be from the heart”. Dan
On the horizon you have a new collection ‘Definition of Community’ which Is the D.O.C you see on the logo, look out for this range. Also the ‘Reverse Logo’ range which Is a bit of a tongue and cheek idea, you’ll see more of this In the near future.
Brixton Street Wear will also be working with Zem Care, a candle production company, specialising in candles that trigger neurological pathways in your brain, all profits going to Mind Over Matter which Is a spoken word/mental health charity.
It’s always a pleasure to meet up with the guys from Brixton Street Wear, truly great people doing great things In the community and beyond. The energy, the conversations, the ideas, their commitment to family and community Is so admirable and with this spirit of togetherness it’s only a matter of time before they go national, so do yourself a favour, check out their website, cop yourselves something, there’s definitely something there to compliment your wardrobe, all the while knowing that you are contributing to a worthy cause.
“Plant many seeds, you’ll grow a forest”. Pete
