It’s that time of the month when Jumpman Journals dedicates a week to a particular silhouette from the Jordan series. Last month was Air Jordan 1s and this month Jordan 2s, Jordan 3s In March and so on.
This silhouette definitely splits opinion but has seen a comeback In recent years. Don’t know if you can really call it a comeback because these didn’t really take flight like some of the more popular models when they were originally released.
Making their debut back in 1986 and designed by Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore, the Air Jordan 2s were Nike’s attempt at an elegant, sophisticated silhouette, which captured Michael Jordan’s sense of fashion and flair.
At the time of release the Air Jordan 2s didn’t receive the same success of the Air Jordan 1s and the designers Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore, were both dismissed from making any more Air Jordan models.
Air Jordan 2s played a very important part In the story of Air Jordans. These are the sneakers that Michael Jordan was wearing when he went on to break records in the NBA, he won his first scoring title wearing Jordan 2s, he won his first dunk contest wearing Jordan 2s, the iconic dunk from the free throw line, MJ was flying through the air wearing Air Jordan 2s.
Also because they didn’t do so well sales wise and the success of Air max 1s at the time, the Jordan brand got a sneaker designer on board that would play a major part In taking the Air Jordan range onto another level. Tinker Hatfield and Michael Jordan created the perfect storm.
