Sneaker Crawl

Sneaker Crawl objectives

Sneaker Crawl Is a charity event to raise money and awareness for LBA (London Basketball Association) and UK basketball. A sponsored walk starting at 10am, on Notting Hill Carnival Sunday 27th August 2023, from Shepherds Bush Westfields W12 7GF to Disya Generation Sound System, Powis Terrace W11 1JY. (Approx 1.3 miles)

Our goal Is to have a safe, fun day out with the JMJ Family, bringing together our followers from all our platforms, while raising the profile of LBA and UK basketball.

Participants will meet up at a pre-designated location Between 9am – 10am, once everyone has arrived official Sneaker Crawl T-shirts and whistles will be handed out to everyone taking part.

We capture some promotional content, do a live stream and then begin walking towards our destination of Disya Generation Sound System, which Is approximately 1.3 miles away. We estimate the whole journey taking approximately 1 – 2 hours, taking into account its Notting Hill Carnival weekend.

It’s not a race, Notting Hill’s streets will be restricted so the best route will be determined beforehand and this will be the recommended route but participants are free to take whichever route suits them. The theme Is a very leisurely pace.

Vibe on route

Carnival vibes on route, music, refreshments, social gathering, family atmosphere. We will attempt to keep everyone together and all arrive at Powis Terrace at the same time, but of course people will get separated, this isn’t a problem as our destination is pretty straight forward. Will also have a qualified security team amongst participants to ensure everyone’s safety.

What happens at Powis Terrace?

We will keep a window of 1 hour for everyone that participated to arrive before we begin announcements, prize giveaways and information about upcoming basketball related activities over the summer holidays. At this stage we will thank everyone involved and our sponsors, hand out free merchandise and awards, get our party on!

Sneaker Crawl outcomes

The main outcome Is to shine a spotlight on UK basketball and inform local youth about the free basketball sessions and activities they have available to them on a regular basis. We’ve worked with LBA In the past to raise money and awareness for all the great work they do In creating and offering social change through basketball. In September 2021 we raised £200 with our first ever Sneaker Crawl, the event was a great success In terms of helping to lift the profile of LBA on social media and In the streets.

This year as we continue to work with LBA and promote UK Basketball we will be taking things to another level In terms of scale. Sneaker Crawl 2023 will be bigger and better In terms of promotion, size of event, amount of participants, sponsorships and partnerships, and of course shining a light on UK basketball and street culture.

Promoting under 18s Girls Basketball

As we continue to champion UK basketball across all our platforms, this year we especially want to target and promote under 18s female basketball players, referees and coaches. We will be doing this In various ways, for example photo sessions with local talent, video interviews and articles, and a regular pop-up podcast which will be at different locations throughout London.

In the lead up to Sneaker Crawl Jumpman Journals will work closely with the LBA team to make sure we’re sending the right message In regards to sessions and activities LBA have available to the community.
